Dark Ages, Schmark Ages. The De-Textbook cuts through that and so much more fake-fact bullshit.

cloudy with a chance of witch burning

your periodic reminder that a good chunk of Europe basically shat the bed for a few centuries while everyone else kinda did their thing.

there was so much happening in the so called ‘dark ages’ that the historian in me cringes every time I hear that term

lol I mean, not that I have any desire to defend europe but the idea of the dark ages is pseudohistorical even within europe, and that is a very odd set of countries to pick to represent “europe” given that spain is majority muslim during the so-called dark ages, as is sicily, like why are mali and the whole of north africa not bathed in yellow, why isn’t western china?the idea that europe and the islamic world have always been rigidly established concepts distinct from one another is just so pseudohistorical, idk why tumblr thinks it’s progressive to feed into a model of history which actively thinks of Europe as being a distinct, christian, white concept from 0AD on b/c it’s not, it’s an idea of history which feeds into european racism, eurocentrism and european exceptionalismthis isn’t the first time I’ve seen stuff from the de-textbook that was just sophomoric and equally misguided as the stuff it criticises tbh
